Who Is NEW ERA?

NEW ERA is an innovative group of senior leadership (Chancellors and Presidents) from the seven public higher education institutions located in Northeast Wisconsin. (See the Board of Directors)

Its Mission is to foster regional collaboration among public colleges and universities to better serve the educational needs of the 1.2 million people in the New North Region (Northeast Wisconsin).

It was formed in 2000 in response to one of the strategic priorities that came from a regional economic summit held that year.

The Vision for the organization incorporates positive change and intentional participation in the regional community/economy/talent development. NEW ERA will be a state and national innovative leader in higher education by:

  • Elevating higher education  partnerships that  recognize and meet the unique needs of Northeast Wisconsin through inclusive excellence, equity, and diversity as a model to ensure the advancement of underrepresented communities throughout the region.

  • Creating quality, seamless, and integrated transitions (student transfers) among member institutions for regional students.

  • Providing educational resources that elevate communities, businesses and government

  • Driving talent solutions for regional and state-wide economic vitality

  • Meeting the “Wisconsin 60 Forward Initiative” where 60% of Wisconsin adults hold post-secondary academic credentials.

The organization is a 501 c (3) charitable organization.

Collaboration across campuses is intentional, mutually beneficial and value adding. NEWERA affords a common forum for the exchange of new ideas, shared solutions to common problems and the ability to scale resources when a regional response makes sense.

A key strategic advantage of NEWERA is derived from the unique value that each member institution brings to the table; it expands the range of networked resources and serves as the building blocks of joint efforts.

Mutual objectives enable NEWERA. As educators, as resident institutions, as employers and contributors to the fabric of the regional community, we are all more connected than divided in that work.

The organization brings peers together to share experiences, network connections and unique points of view that can shape higher education priorities and mutual work both on our campus and across campuses in the region.

Working together takes commitment and some risk but it also affords great promise.
